CEO Report
The estate has been bustling with activity, with many projects underway. The solar installation has begun, alongside several other projects that need to be completed during the winter months.
Morning coffee initiative
Our Dainfern Cares early morning coffee initiative has been well received, especially during the recent cold spell. The DHA will continue running this initiative throughout July on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Stuart Martin of Best Deck has kindly sponsored Thursday coffees, and we would welcome sponsorship for Tuesdays as well. This initiative would not be possible without the invaluable assistance of our Fidelity team, who help with the early morning setup.
Orienteering Event
We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback on our Father’s Day weekend events. Both events were firsts for Dainfern and, based on the success, will likely be held again. I participated in the orienteering event with my family; it was a fun adventure with 20 waypoints on the 6 km course. We managed to complete 10 in an hour, while the winners impressively completed 17. Thank you to SIX33 for the hot chocolate and cookies at the end, and to Jonny’s, SIX33, Gifts by You, Col’ Cacchio, and Dainfern Golf for the prizes.
Dad Fest Car Show
The Dad Fest Car Show on Father’s Day morning was a standout event. Residents of all ages enjoyed the display of cars, boats, bikes, and quads. The DJ kept the atmosphere lively, and the coffee truck provided much-needed caffeine for early morning attendees. A huge thank you to the Lifestyle team, our residents who showcased their vehicles and to our exhibitors (Carshop Rivonia, Sports & GT Classics, Biker’s Warehouse, and Chasing Cars).
With the winter solstice behind us, we can look forward to spring and longer days. In the meantime, stay warm and enjoy the estate’s beauty, even in the middle of winter.

April Festivities
Our Easter festivities were absolutely thrilling with the assistance of Halo Aviation (our aerial medic partner) who dropped hundreds of easter eggs from their helicopter for the children to collect, share and enjoy. There was huge excitement all around. The children could also enjoy the jumping castle, slip and slide, cute petting zoo as well as fun tattoos. The vibe was incredible as live music accompanied the special spit braai provided by SIX33.
Congratulations
We congratulate the following winners of the Men’s Club Championships 2024:-
Matthew Leonard on winning the Junior Club Championship Title 2024 with scores of 74 + 72 = 146 Total Gross.
Oliver Goldhill on being the Dainfern Golf Club Club Champion 2024. Over the two days, his score was an incredible 70 + 66 = 136 Gross (-8).
Senior Men’s Club Champion for 2024 – Mr. Neale Gandy and his scores were 74 – 71 = 145.
We congratulate Heinrich Bruiners on his spectacular win of the Stella Artois Players Championship 2024, hosted by Dainfern Golf Estate. The weather was picture perfect, the course in tip top condition and all the teams – from Golf, Turfnet, Golf Data, SIX33, the Board and all the staff at the DHA pulled together to ensure this was a highly successful event.
Maintenance
We have finally completed the project to redo ALL our road names across the Estate. This was a huge undertaking and we thank the team who coordinated the project. Our maintenance staff have recently received their new uniforms too – we are very proud of them.
Golf Data
We are currently dusting the greens heavily once a month during the growing season which is extremely beneficial for the health of the turf grass plant and the longevity of sand- based greens.
The sand helps to dilute the thatch and control the organic layer. The sand also helps protect the crown of the plant where other diseases can occur. This practice also helps to protect the leaf blades from the constant shearing action from the mower blades and helps alleviate the stress from foot traffic. The sand creates a smoother playing surface and assists to keep the greens firm and true.

We had a very successful December on our Estate in terms of security. We are proud to let our residents know that the Fidelity security plan for the festive season ensured that we had no major incidents and our residents, their families, visitors and their homes were safe.
Fidelity Security Christmas Fund
We thank the residents that did donate towards the Fidelity Security Christmas Fund. The money raised during December and January will be split amongst the security personnel. Your generosity is hugely appreciated.
Annual Hollow Tining
We did our annual hollow tining of our golf course during the week of 15 – 19 January 2024. We engage in this practice to eliminate thatch buildup within the top inch and soil profile. This is crucial for preserving top quality greens as accumulated thatch over time can lead to problems such as poor drainage, resulting in soft and spongy greens that adversely affect playability, smoothness, speed and consistency of ball roll. For sand-based greens, this practice is essential to eliminate thatch and add new sand to enhance the longevity of the greens. The thatch layer also serves as a breeding ground for pathogens that cause diseases posing a threat to the overall health of the plant. This is the reason why we do the monthly dusting on the greens as well to control and manage the thatch layer and produce decent putting surfaces. The application of sand also assists with drying out and reducing black algae that has been noticeable on some greens after the recent rainfall and low evaporation rates.
Renewal of the Tenders
We are in the process of the renewal of the tenders for the Estate Gardens and the Golf Course Maintenance. This is currently underway, and we will keep you updated as to this progress. The solar tender process is well under way and a more detailed update will be shared in next month’s report. We look forward to a wonderful 2024.
