General Manager’s Report
Dainfern Golf Estate is officially 30 years young! We will be celebrating with events from 5 November starting off with our Spring Fair and Movie Night under the Stars on Saturday 5 November 2022.
Oktoberfest
We started off the month with the annual Oktoberfest hosted by SIX33 and they had over 400 bookings on the day – cheers!
Matric Dances
We were fortunate to host several matric dance pre-drinks as the schools in the area marked this milestone event in the lives of the students in their final year of school. The Clubhouse was alive with beautifully dressed young people and their families who shared in this special occasion.
Fantastic Fridaze
Fantastic Fridaze on 7 October was another successful event with a wonderful crowd attending and we congratulate our three lucky winners. The Two Timers entertained us on the night. We look forward to our bonus event on 2 December where the 10% we retained from each Fantastic Fridaze when we started this year will be added to the ticket sales on the night to culminate in the biggest win for the year. Don’t miss out!
Quiz Night
SIX33 hosted a Quiz night on Thursday, 13 October and there was excitement all round as the participants were competing with each other.
E-waste Day
Our E-waste day on Saturday, 15 October was very well supported and it was reassuring to see the support from our residents. Each person was given a seedling as a thank you from the DHA for bringing in their E-waste items.
Corporate Golf Days
We hosted several successful corporate golf days for SAMPRO, Barron Clothing, Dainfern College Parents’ Association, Blue Label Series with the Sunshine Tour and the Bushveld Tour.
Corporate Identity
We have just redesigned all our email signatures and are excited about the rollout of our refreshed vehicle branding too.
AGM
We are working on many projects and ideas that will be presented in the Strategic Presentation at our AGM on 15 November. Make sure to attend to be part of the excitement.
NOTICE: I will be available at the Clubhouse to chat with residents every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon between 13h00 – 17h00.

General Manager’s Report
Please diarise our AGM on 26 October as we would appreciate your attendance.
We love the new life that Spring has breathed into our Estate.
Our trees have new fresh green leaves, blossoms are bright, and the Estate is bursting with colour everywhere. It seems that Spring brings a new sense of energy and enthusiasm.
Fantastic Fridaze
We started September off with another successful Fantastic Fridaze with three very happy winners and many families that joined us on the evening, enjoying the warmth of Spring and the superb entertainment provided by ROYAL-T.
Bird Walk and Arbor Week
Our Nature Association hosted a wonderful bird walk, led by our expert André Marx and we welcomed in Arbor Week with a display of trees for sale by Sean James from Turfnet. We sold 45 trees and thank the residents that supported this worthwhile day.
Blood Drive
We also hosted the SANBS (South African National Blood Service) and had 36 residents donate blood on the day – we thank those who came out to make a difference in the lives of others.
Matric Dance
Crawford College and Dainfern College chose our beautiful Estate for their pre-drinks before their matric dances. The Estate was alive with beautiful young people with their partners and families celebrating these milestone events.
Heritage Day
Heritage Day was celebrated with a braai in true South African fashion that was enjoyed by families across the Estate.
Prawn Special
SIX33 hosted a prawn evening special and were overwhelmed with visitors and residents who share a love of prawns, who were excited to eat out and enjoy the beauty of the views from our Clubhouse.
Loadshedding
Loadshedding has really taken its toll on all of us – with moving between Stages and forcing us all to plan differently. We thank our residents for their patience during this period and give huge thanks to our staff who work tirelessly to ensure, where possible, that water and electricity are sorted out as soon as is practicable.
We look forward to some desperately needed rain to ensure our golf course returns to the emerald green that we expect, especially after the winter months.

Finance SGM
We were delighted with the outcome of the Finance SGM where our budget was approved. We have worked hard to give residents a clear understanding of how we work our finances, with the assistance of the Trafalgar team, and are now able to deliver on the projects presented at
the meeting.
Thank you to everyone who attended and to those that were involved with all aspects of getting this budget approved – together we will move forward.
Fantastic Fridaze
Fantastic Fridaze was a lot of fun on Friday 5 August with Zionruts entertaining us. Our firepits were ablaze on this cold evening and the patio area was fully booked on the night. We congratulate all our winners and thank SIX33 for their delicious food that rounded off the evening perfectly.
Women’s Day
Women’s Day was celebrated with a “spa” day at the Clubhouse – ladies were treated with the options of a Pop-Up IV Bar, an Oxygen Chamber, a mobile Spa Therapist, as well as Reflexology. A glass of bubbly for each lady ended off the experience.
Mr Thabiso Shadrack Maduna
We mourned the loss of one of our favourite Fidelity security members – Mr Thabiso Shadrack Maduna (fondly known as “Shaddie”). We hosted a memorial service for him at the Clubhouse giving his fellow team members, friends, and family an opportunity to bid him farewell. We send our deepest condolences to his family.
Mrs Beryl Pollard
Mrs Beryl Pollard sadly passed away at the incredible age of 104. Beryl used to live on the Estate with her son Russell and we had the opportunity of sharing her 100th birthday with her at the time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this very sad time.
Dainfern Masters
Our Dainfern Masters was hosted on 20 and 21 August. Congratulations to all our winners. The Dainfern Masters Champion for 2022 is Terry Petit with a total of 141 nett.
Golf Membership
Our golf membership is growing steadily and especially our family packages have been taken up. Our ball machine on the driving range has been as successful as we envisioned and recently, we received brand new Srixon balls to add to the offer. The Golf Committee, in conjunction with our golf team have recently acquired the “MyHomeClub” App to improve communications with members, booking of rounds and to create a better user experience for our members. The ladies hosted a successful Mixed Open and have their Dainfern Ladies Open Spring Day planned for 13 September which we look forward to.
Thank You!
We are excited about the increased number of events that are being planned by our golf team. Our thanks go to the Golf Committee for their hands-on support, guidance, and assistance in all areas of our golf offering.

Fantastic Fridaze
July has been a month of activity starting with our Fantastic Fridaze on 1 July at the Clubhouse. It was well supported, and a lot of fun was had by all who attended. Even though it was a cold evening, the music, food and entertainment ensured that everyone enjoyed themselves.
Congratulations to Gary Cummings who won a bottle of Bellingham and the lucky draw of R6 000, as well as Natalie Beveridge who won the R1 000 SIX33 voucher on the night. We look forward to this monthly event which takes place on the first Friday of every month.
Tennis Inc
Tennis Inc hosted their Wimbledon weekend on 2 and 3 July where they converted the pavilion field into grass tennis courts. Juniors and adults enjoyed two days of tennis – Wimbledon Style – and even had strawberries and cream and cucumber sandwiches. Everyone dressed in white and had a superb tennis experience.
#Estate Challenge
Mandela Day was hosted on Monday 18 July with an exciting #Estate Challenge hosted by Stratdigi. Fourways Gardens, Cedar Lakes and Dainfern Golf Estate entered a challenge to see who could pack the most Jars of Hope to win the Trophy for ‘Estate of Hope 2022’.
We are proud to say that we are tie with Fourways Gardens. Each Estate will be allocated R5 000 to donate to the charity of their choice and will share the Trophy for six months each. We are thrilled to have assisted packing over 3 000 jars to feed 12 000 people. Thank you to everyone who prepared, planned, organised, sponsored, supported, cleaned, and packed on the day.
Dainfern is certainly an Estate that truly cares! Teamwork makes the dream work!
Thank you to Peet Trollip
I would like to thank Peet Trollip for being the Interim General Manager over the past few months. Peet has done a phenomenal job in addition to his existing role of being the Security Manager too. I congratulate him on his appointment as the COO and look forward to working closely with him.
New Director of Golf
We said farewell to Tim Steynberg at the end of June as he looked at broadening his horizons and we welcomed Dean Kupferman as our new Director of Golf. We are thrilled to have Dean onboard, as many of you would know him from the Pro Shop where he previously worked for Global Golf. Dean is a PGA Professional and has a wealth of experience. We wish him everything of the best in his new role.
A Clear Directive from the Board
I have been here for a month already and am very excited to have joined the Dainfern family. I have a clear directive from the Board and am working hard with my team to ensure the smooth running of this beautiful Estate.

Fantastic Fridaze
June started off with a bang as we hosted our first Fantastic Fridaze event after Covid. There was great food, awesome live entertainment, drinks were flowing, and winners were chosen!
Congratulations to all the winners. The prizes included vouchers from SIX33 (Nicci Humphries), a bottle of Bellingham (Terence Clarkson) and the lucky draw winner (Nicholas Musgrove) received a total of R10 300. Don’t miss out on the next one – it is on the first Friday of EVERY month.
Clock Unveiled
We unveiled our clock on top of the Gary Player Tribute on 3 June 2022. We thank the following sponsors for their generosity –
Youth Day Market
Our Youth Day Market took place on 16 June at the clubhouse. We had wonderful goods on sale from cupcakes, handbags, watches, crystals, yoga pants, candy floss, children’s books, clothing, nonalcoholic pomegranate champagne and much more. Even though it was a cold day, it was very well supported by our residents.
Three hole-in-ones
We have had three hole-in-ones on our 11th hole over a period of two weeks. What an incredible feeling when this happens – congratulations to Bruno Albino, Rob Becker and Robert Skjodt.
Farewell to Tim Steynberg
We bid farewell to Tim Steynberg as he explores new avenues in his golfing career and sincerely thank him for all that he did for us during his tenure, especially over the very difficult Covid period. Dean Kupferman will be taking over from him. Dean currently runs the Pro Shop, and we look forward to having him join our team.
Winter taken its toll
Winter has taken its toll on our golf course and gardens. The frost is visible most mornings as the landscape changes with the seasons. We thank the Nature Association, Golf Data as well as Turfnet for continually ensuring that our golf course, paths, and gardens around the estate are always looking their best.
Mandela Day
Join us at the clubhouse on 18 July to do your 67 minutes for Mandela Day – we are competing with Fourways Gardens and Cedar Lakes and would love to be the Estate that wins the challenge set out for us.

May has been a busy month on our Estate. We had a wonderful Mother’s Day celebration at the clubhouse and even though the weather was cold and rainy, there were smiles all around as families celebrated this special day with their moms.
Reptile Talk
The Dainfern Nature Association hosted the Chameleon Village Reptile Park visit and both young and old were enthralled by the creepies and crawlies that were shown and discussed. It was a wonderfully entertaining and educational morning attended by many residents and their families. Everybody learned something new on the day.
Ladies Club Champs
Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May saw the ladies competing for the Ladies Club Champ of 2022. The winner is Tylah James – congratulations. The course was in great condition, and we had 37 ladies playing for the Championship. Thanks go to all the participants for their support, the sponsors for their generosity as well as the whole golf team for ensuring that these two days ran extremely smoothly.
Bird Walk
André Marx hosted an incredible bird walk on Saturday 21 May, and we had a lovely turnout of avid bird watchers. Thank you to the Dainfern Nature Association for arranging this event and to André for sharing his wealth of knowledge.
Domestic Workers Forum
We held a Domestic Workers Forum on Tuesday 24 May at the Pavilion arranged by Douglasdale SAPS and CPF (Community Policing Forum). This was an opportunity to upskill our domestic staff in first aid, fire prevention, reporting of crimes, safety and security tips, as well as guidelines around the walking of dogs on the Estate. Refreshments were served to all attendees.
Going Forward
June is looking exciting with our launch of the FANTASTIC FRIDAZE on Friday 3 June and our Youth Market on 16 June at the Pavilion. As wonderful as it is to start having more and more events on the Estate, we are cognisant of the fact that Covid numbers are extremely high in this fifth
wave. We ask residents to still be cautious and hold online meetings (if possible), keep physically distanced, wash your hands often and continue
with the wearing of masks – for the safety of everybody.

Easter Celebrations
We had a wonderful celebration of Easter with a Let’s Keep Moving morning on Saturday 16 April, as well as an Easter Egg hunt and tons of entertainment for the children on a cold and rainy Easter Sunday. Parents could relax and enjoy a scrumptious lunch at SIX33 whilst their children were entertained. We thank all the staff involved for the happy smiles from both parents and children.
The Stella Artois Sunshine Tour Players Championship
The Stella Artois Sunshine Tour Players Championship has returned and was proudly hosted by Dainfern Golf Estate for the fourth year in a row. We welcomed 156 players to play on our stunning course from 21-24 April 2022. It was incredible to allow spectators back after they were not able to watch during lockdown whilst COVID restrictions were in place. We had SuperSport filming over the weekend and enjoyed fantastic coverage of our beautiful Estate on both days. We congratulate Jaco Ahlers for being the 2022 Stella Artois Players Championship Winner.
We engaged with City Power, City of Johannesburg and Eskom on a regular basis to ensure that both electricity and water interruptions are kept to a minimum. We thank our amazing maintenance team who work relentlessly, often throughout the night, to ensure that the correct teams are onsite to fix these problems. We thank our Board for their support, advice and guidance in ensuring that we do everything possible to restore these services as quickly as possible.

Golf Course in tip-top condition
Golf Data, Turfnet, the Nature Association as well as the DHA maintenance teams have been hard at work to get our golf course and Estate in tip-top condition in time for our annual Men’s Club Championship which took place on 19 and 20 March. It has been incredible to see the teamwork and commitment of everyone involved and we thank you for this.
Men’s Club Champion for 2022
We congratulate Rourke Lauryssen on being our current Men’s Club Champion for 2022, as well as Brody Leather and Josh Cunliffe who came second and third respectively. The Ed Holding Singles Knockout Champion is Richard Andriessen.
The Sunshine Tour Players Championship is set to take place from 18 – 24 April 2022.
This allows our amazing Estate to shine and we look forward to hosting this prestigious event once again.
We are thrilled at being able to host more events going forward right here on our Estate. We will be putting an events calendar together once our new budget is approved, so watch this space!

In Focus your community magazine – Dainfern Nature Association March 2022
We are pleased to see the easing of restrictions that we have experienced for almost two years now. Although Covid is still with us, we can return to some kind of “normality” as we used to know it.
The rain causing havoc
We have experienced an exceptional amount of rain that has caused havoc on our Estate. Our Maintenance, Security, Turfnet and Nature Association teams have been extremely hard at work to tidy up along the river, golf course and the whole Estate so that it quickly returns to the beautiful Estate we all call home.
Men’s Club Champs
As our events are picking up too, we look forward to the Men’s Club Champs taking place on 19 and 20 March, and the Ladies Club Champs scheduled for 17 and 18 May 2022. We wish all participants well in these championships.
New Golf Committee
The Golf AGM took place on 26 January, and we congratulate our new Golf Committee. The committee members are as follows:
- Mr Rob Becker – Chairman
- Mr Grant McCann – Men’s Captain
- Mrs Hilary Peche – Ladies Captain
- Mr Joe Bester – Committee Member
- Mr Andrew Winstone – Committee Member
We wish this new team every success in their term of office.
