NATURE ASSOCIATION: BIRD WALK

It was cold and just a little damp last Saturday for our bird walk, conditions which probably discouraged many residents from coming along. There were 4 of us for the walk plus Andre and we were soon on our way to the Sawgrass Dams. Here we spotted a malachite kingfisher and a pair of pied kingfishers. Many of the larger fish here were lost due to a sewage leak in the middle dam but the presence of kingfishers indicated that many fish must have survived!!

We then made our way down to the river where we watched swallows, swifts and martins skimming the surface of the water for insects. In total we saw 54 different birds, Andre says the bird of the day was a Willow warbler – but I liked the kingfishers! Not bad for a cold grey morning …. Thank you, Andre!
